Yewknee.com Summer Mix

Seriously, I can’t stress it enough, the yewknee.com summer mix series is awesome. I can’t believe how many mixes there are this summer.

highlights (ones you should get):

Cody Newman’s

Ryan Hale’s

Michael Eades’ (two of them)

I’m leaving out 59 others, but you should download them ALL at some point before summer’s over. And when you find a song that you just plain love, GO BUY THE BAND’S ALBUM! That’s what this is all about anyways, right?

p.s. mine too

The Flash

Anyone who knows me pretty well knows that I am not a huge comic nerd, but as of lately, I’ve been reading some comics. I’m making my way through The Flash series from 1988 to the present. This series is commonly known as The Flash V2. it deals with Wally West after he dropped the persona of Kid Flash because Barry Allen “died” (below I’ll explain the quotations), and became The Flash.

He starts off the series unable to run as fast as he previously could as Kid Flash. WW (Wally West) could only run at the speed of sound. He also has to eat a whole lot of food to keep even that slow speed up. I really like the comic because it addresses this food issue. The Flash isn’t a bad person, so he can’t just steal food. Eating 6-7 large pizzas for dinner is pretty expensive if you have to do it daily. And getting paid in thanks for saving someone’s life is gratifying, but doesn’t quite pay the bills. He starts doing “fast work” for people. Things such as delivering organs for hospitals (which gets him free medical treatments, and a modest paycheck). Well, he hits the lottery and wins ~6 million dollars, thus securing his finances for a while. This is obviously a plot device to get the story moving. I mean how fun would it be to watch the flash deliver a liver or kidney each week?

The Speed Force: The speed force is where Flashes and any being that can move faster than the speed of light goes. It is another dimension and WW is the only flash to have travelled to the speed force and come back. When he comes back, he has the ability to tap into the speed force at any time. Those of you who might roll your eyes at Superman’s almost god-like powers would roll your eyes even bigger at The Flash after he’s fully powered. Imagine a superhero that can hit you thousands upon thousands of times before you even realize you were hit once. If he were to get in a fight with Superman, he could just leave the fight, come back with kryptonite (he could take his time finding some) and take out superman before you or I could blink.

There’s also the fact that he’s sarcastic, and loves puns and one-liners. He’s also good with the ladies.

So at full power, The Flash is more powerful than Superman, take that you haters.

Things I didn’t mention in this post: He can time travel thanks to the speed force, he can speed up objects and people with the speed force, giving them the stripped down speed powers, when he’s running at the speed of light, time basically stops and he exerts as much energy as if he were jogging. DC Films are planning on making a Flash Movie sometime in the near future, and I can’t wait.

To explain the “died” part above.  Flashes don’t die, when their power gets too much, they simply -poof- disappear as they are running, and are trasported into the speed force dimension.  Again, WW is the only to physically escape from the speed force

New feature at imdb

I just noticed on imdb that people listed in movies/tv shows/whatever now have small thumbnails next to their name. Good implementation, but I think it screwed up the asthetics of the page a little. Hopefully they are still tweaking it. Check here for an example

You think that’s bad….

being bald is strange. I keep getting phantom hair, where I go to get the hair out of my eyes, or off my forehead, and it’s just not there. Sweating is kinda a problem, but a sweatband solves that problem.

Coke Zero is pretty good, you should drink it instead of Coca Cola Classic. Too bad restraunts don’t serve Coke Zero. Then again, that’s good on my pocketbooks, cause water is free.

Flavor blasted BBQ flavored goldfish are awesome and fairly cheap.

I’ve started making my little pita pizzas again. so easy to make.

While I was typing this out, I kinda lost my train of thought (not that I really had one anyways), because of a fire alarm here at work. It’s really weird to see people during a fire alarm. I was trained and brought up to fear them. I was taught, get out of the building at the speed at which you want to live. So I’m walking down the stairs from the 7th floor to the 3rd just passing by everyone. I then get outside, the outside is on the 3rd floor, and people are just kinda mulling around directly in front of the building. I’m talking within 5 feet of the building.

Now I was also raised to know that a fire alarm could be for one of many reasons, including a bomb. Why would you stand next to a building that has the potential to blow up? Oh, right, because there’s shade, and summer in Texas is brutally hot.

I take comfort sitting out in the grass on my laptop while all the old bitties are standing next to the building complaining how hot it is (note the irony).

I’ll come up with something good tomorrow to post while I’m here at work. Promise

Not to complain, but…

I’m going through listening to a lot of the mixes at Yewknee’s Summer Mix Series and I’m noticing people who are just not taking pride in their mp3s.
I won’t point any specifics out, but it’s just ID tags, or I should say, the lack of them, and the lack of changing them slightly to reflect the mix they are on. I also saw people sneaking m4a’s in there. I can understand, people use crappy itunes and all, but c’mon, mp3 is a universal audio file. I have to jump through hoops to listen to m4a files.

It’s also funny to be able to see who uses apples and who doesn’t because of all the weird extra files that are in the zip file when someone uses an apple. “.DS_Store” and the weird “__MACOSX” folder that I’ve never ever understood why it exists. Every time I lend my flash drive out to someone with an apple, I get it back and it has all these weird files and folders like the ones I mentioned above on it.

I’ll admit, if you put a flash drive that is larger than (I believe) 20gigs in a windows computer it will index all the files and throw a hidden “recycler” folder on the drive, and that’s just as annoying, but at least it doesn’t do it with sub 20gig flash drives. (I might be wrong on the size it might just be anything over 4gigs).

Edit: Just so no one thinks I’m complaining, I just want to again say I’m not complaining. Take what I said with a grain of salt. I’m so super picky about mp3s and idtags. Just look at my mix and tell me I’m not anal.

Home again home again jiggity jig

It’s Thursday night. I made it home safe and sound.

I must say, the trip was plesant, fun, and needed. You, dear reader, already know of my journey there, Saturday was spent sleeping in about 5 minutes past when Eric woke up at about 9:30 or so. I tried to sleep more, but the sun is perfectly positioned onto his couch from 9am to about 10:30am so more sleep was out of the question.

I showered to get the smell of a road trip off of me (breathing recycled air makes one have a certain smell), and got my bearings. If I weren’t a slightly overweight internet nerd who subsides a little too much on fast food, I would be ashamed to say that I then left his house in search for… nay, on a quest to get something we do not have here in my part of Texas. Krystal I honestly don’t know what I was thinking, seeing as I how I had friends I could have called up and ate with. In fact as soon as I finished my meal, my phone rang and it was Eric telling me to come to KNI Nash and join the fellows for lunch. We went to a local place Jackson’s I believe. I watched them eat and got to meet Kurt and Arlo. Both very cool. I then went back to the studio with them and got to watch them work for a few hours (I knew it sounds silly, but what they do facinates me. They kept saying it was a same that I came the weekend I did, but I disagree with em. They started a webpage from scratch on Thursday and worked their butts off until Tuesday morning at about 5am to get Thelookandsoundofperfect.com up. I brought my nintendo ds with me on the trip and it just so happened that was an excellent idea. Everyone there had one too. So there was a lot of Mario Kart, a little Tetris, and absolutely WAY too much pictochat. The only reason I say way too much is because if you’ve ever done pictochat you know that almost every drawing eventually evolves (or I should say devolves) into a picture (or pictures) of genetalia. Wait, that’s awesome. I really wish I had more opportunity to pictochat with people.

Saturday night was the buddytown one year anniversary party. It was a major blast, I got to see more people that I hadn’t seen in a few months, and got my picture taken by a professional photographer. but more importantly, it was just plain fun. way way fun! Stayed out until about 4:00 or so.

Sunday I woke up at about 9:30 and I drove around for the first half of the day and checked out Nashville. Got a call, went back to the studio for some lunch. Hung around again, did various fun things. Man, all the days kinda ran into each other, I’m going to stop with a blow by blow account and just tell you what I did. I went to Grimeys (an awesome local record store) 5 minutes before they closed, so I went back the next day, and 5 minutes after I walked in, I got a phone call telling me to come meet up for lunch. Finally on Tuesday I was able to go in. I bought a Murs vinyl.

Another highlight, eating Sushi with Cody Newman (check out his myspace and tell me Ritalin isn’t the most catchy song ever).

Another highlight, staying up at kni until 3:30 on Monday night while they finished up the page they were working on.

More highlights, hanging out with Josh Stafford and playing Mario Kart, also playing Shuffleboard (the tabletop kind, my #1 favorite game on earth) with him and Cody and others on Tuesday night. Eating “mexican” food at their local places and trying really hard to not judge it. Eating at a local Mediteranian place. Watching Pirates of the Carribean 2 by myself while waiting for kni to finish that page. Going to Krystal no more than 4 times (3 of them past 3:00am). Waking up no later than 9:30 every day. Meeting Mandi, Seeing Lauren again, Seeing Blake again, Seeing Madrid again, Seeing Daniel Box, Seeing Michael Eades, Eric letting me sleeping in his place, getting audiobooks from eric that I gave to him last time I was there, finding a huge comic book store that also sells used cds and records. So there were acctually girls in the comic book store, and when one walked in, it didn’t go completely silent. Going to a CD Warehouse for the first time in 4 years. Going to a Tower Records for the first time in 4 years. In CD Warehouse seeing someone who looked exactally like an old friend from Alvin who I know for a fact lives in Nashville and then saying to him “jeremy….?” and him looking up with the eyes of someone who is the person in question, even getting a “hey, it’s you” look from him and saying back to that look “holyyyyy crappp man, it’s been forev….” only to be cut off by the person saying “oh, man, I’m sorry I looked up, my name’s not jeremy”

that’s all I got for now. Oh, and apparently my haircut is hilarious. So I don’t have to worry about going bald, cause if I do, all I have to do is go with it and make it goofylooking. As long as you are bald on purpose, it’s funny.

one last also, my friends here in Texas are going to have to fight for me, cause a few people asked me when I would be moving to Nashville, and I seriously contemplated it. It won’t be for a year, so Austin friends, you have time to think up good ways to get me to stay.

I’m here

Well, I had an exciting adventure yesterday.  I went to my final at 3:00 and got out at 4:30.  As soon as I got out, I got in my pre-pacled car, and started driving.

Made a quick stop in Austin to deposit a check at the bank, and grab a bit of cash for the weekend.

Austin Traffic added an extra hour to my trip, ugh.  I arrived in Nashville at 6:30am.  Eric left the door unlocked for me, so I just grabbed my essentials out of the car, threw them on the floor at Eric’s and passed out on his couch the second I touched it.  What a sight I must have been this morning when he woke up.
Highlights of the drive:  there were really only two.  #1 somewhere around Hopkins Texas (between Dallas and Texarkana) I saw a store called BEER:30  (Since I had to explain this to everyone I called and told about it, imagine a Frat guy saying to another Frat guy, “hey man, you know what time it is?  It’s BEER:30!”  The other highlight was listening to The Dark Tower VI and half of The Dark Tower VII on the way.  I had been reading part VI, but listening in the car really really helps pass the time.
