Mum’s birthday

I just want the record to show that I did call you today mom.  I did call you with the intention to wish you a happy half century, but first I accidentally called your old Cellphone number (forgetting that it was in my phone) and left you a message (left whoever has your old number a message wishing you a happy birthday).  Then after that person called me back at about 8:00 I fixed your entry in my phone, and called the right number, but got voicemail
So I’m sorry I called so late, but I did call.  Unlike last year where I was thinking I would be the first person to wish you happy birthday and found out I was a day late.  This year I know that I’m probably the last person to wish you a happy birthday, but at least it was on the right day!

BBC

I am very jealous, and have been for years, of people in the UK. They have the BBC Channels. Sure, they have to pay a TV license tax of something like 119 Euros a year to watch TV.

Yes, you read that right, they pay a tax to watch over-the-air television. But in doing so, there is little to know censureship and no commercials.

I would gladly pay $153.34 a year for quality programming, including the BBC News channel, and channel 4. Channel 4, from what I take it, is the comedy channel. Such shows as Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, Nathan Barley, The Mighty Boosh, Snuff Box, The Day Today, Jam, The IT Crowd.

Past shows like The Office, Coupling, 15 Storeys High, even the original incarnation of most of our crummy reality shows started off over in the UK, and they weren’t crappy like our versions.

Future shows to look out for would be Man to Man with Dean Learner (a garth marenghi spinoff, starring Richard Ayoade), season 2 of The IT Crowd, and I’m sure others.

We barely even begin to reach their greatness with limitless shows, and you have to pay ~$10 a month to just get one channel’s worth of shows (HBO, Showtime).

Edit: I just realized, my words above might have made the US version of The Office look bad.  I love the US Office.  It’s not crappy.  I meant all the crappy knockoff gameshows we have, and the crappy reality shows.

This just in: Bob Dylan is worthless

In a recent article Bob Dylan was quoted as saying in the last twenty years of music, he hasn’t heard a good album.

Fortunately for me, I don’t care about Bob Dylan’s thoughts on music.  I think he’s taking a jab at CDs and at the producers of all music.  Well, Mr Fancy pants, why don’t you do something about it?  Why aren’t you producing music? I don’t mean making music, I mean why isn’t he producing other artist’s albums?  Why isn’t he focusing on making only records.  Why is he releasing his next album on CD?  If you don’t like how it sounds, then why don’t you fix it?

I think it’s pretty ignorant to say there hasn’t been any good sounding music in the last 20 years.  Why are we still buying music then?  Why are people going to jail and getting fines for stealing music?

Old hippies make me so mad!  Arrgh!  I need to smash something!

this is not a spoiler

Don’t worry, this isn’t a spoiler, but just something I noticed that no one else in my theater noticed.  During a quiet part in the movie right after a big commotion, you hear someone very faintly from the back of the plane yell “Snakes!”  if you listen for it and hear it.  I swear to you, it will be the funniest line in the whole movie.

Go see Snakes on a plane

The movie was great, cheesy, but in a way that wasn’t too over the top. Every death imaginable happened. I saw it in Austin at the Drafthouse Lamar, before the movie they had snake handlers do a snake show, including the guy who holds the worlds record for the most live rattlesnakes rattles in his mouth at one time (9). I also was sitting in the row behind Harry Knowles (that dude is seriously fat. FAT). And the row in front of Quentin Tarantino, his posse, and Rosario Dawson and her posse. Tarantino’s voice is really annoying, and he HISSSSSSSSSSSSSS’ed almost the whole second half of the movie (I guess he thought he was funny?).

I didn’t like how people were going up to Tarantino.  Leave the man alone he just came here to watch a movie.  He wasn’t involved with the movie, leave him alone.  argh

Rosario Dawson is really beautiful,  I did not realize how beautiful she is until seeing her not all done up for hollywood.

Today is going to be a good day.

First off, get this out of the way, The Rentals show was nothing short of amazing. I am still a little sore from the concert. there was a whole LOT of jumping. Matt Sharp has probably the second best stage presence I’ve ever witnessed. The first being Jonathan Richman. Matt Sharp had the audience jumping, thumping, and generally going crazy. It was awesome when before one of the songs he grabbed a bass guitar, and I yelled out, “Oh my god! He’s going to do a Weezer song!” and sure enough, they played “I Just Threw Out the Love of my Dreams” which is close enough to a Weezer song, even though it’s kinda a melding of Weezer and The Rentals.

I popped on good old Yewknee Radio over at last.fm and the first song that comes on for the day is a Grandaddy song. Which is fitting since I am wearing my trucker hat, and (I’ll say it again) rocking the chinstrap, today.

I also just got word from my new boss that I got my new job. So I got to put in my two weeks notice at my current job.

Ice Cube was right.
