birfday funtimes

well, as much as I don’t really make a big deal (no extravagant parties or anything), a lot of stuff happened for my b-day week.  On Wednesday Evan took me and Sarah out for lunch (since it was also Administrative Assistant’s day), and then Casey took me out for dinner.  Sarah also made me a cake, which I still have barely put a dent in, because it’s very rich.

Then today I went to Ikea with Melissa for a few hours, then tried to find Rock and Romp unsuccessfully.  She then dropped me off at Francisco’s house where Cassandra was busy toiling away in the kitchen making a Red Velvet Cake for your’s truly.  Mark, LeAnne, Aaron, Jason, Matt, and Emilie showed up, some catching up happened, and some cake was consumed.

Then it’s about 8:45 and Mark and I headed up the road to downtown to catch Elvis Perkins, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Stubbs.  After that show was over (11:10), Paige called me and I went across the street to Mohawk, caught up with Paige and Kevin and then watched White Denim tear the house down.

Today was great, really great.

Rap Cat

Much like michael has been doing lately, I’m going to post a ton of videos here.  It’s amazing how many GOOD commercials come from candy companies.  The Starburst with the whale is my favorite.  These are all good, and if I had TV, I would probably get excited each time one of them came on.

Kurt Vonnegut

Well, today’s a sad day, a great man, and a great writer has left this earth.

Hopefully he’s up there somewhere with a blue movie star.

Kurt Vonnegut, we’ll miss your stories

Foam Board 2

Here’s the pictures of the completed products.

I bought Foam Board that was big enough to accommodate the posters, then taped the posters to the edge of the foam board as flush as I could get them.  Traced the edges and then untaped the poster.  Foam board is really easy to cut with a box-cutter or exacto knife.  Once I had the board acceptably cut, I put the poster back on the board, taped it securely to just one side, like a hinge, and pulled the poster off the board like opening a door.  Covered the area surrounding the board with newspaper (the adhesive spray is MESSY if you get it anywhere).  My covering included the poster, cause I just wanted the coat of “glue” to be on the foam.  Sprayed pretty evenly according to the glue’s instructions.  Then just hinged the poster back into place and push the bubbles out.

in case you were wondering, this is what I used, and it was only $6 at Hobby Lobby.

haha, I just noticed that Zorak is presenting the adhesive
The Foam Boards were $1.99 each.  Those are just the first three.  I have 4 more posters that I want to do.  My back just started getting sore from all the bending over indian style sitting.

Foam Board

Tonight I went over to Hobby Lobby and bought some Foam Board for some posters that I’ve had for a long time, and tonight I started the task of cutting the boards and gluing the posters to the boards.  Right now they are drying, and tomorrow I’ll get some pictures of the completed products up.

It’s gonna be great, I’m tired of just having posters up on the wall hanging there all willy-nilly.

Detroit pt2

I’m back in San Marcos now.  Last night was the awards banquet for the AITP national conference competitions.  It was great, our school managed to bring home one Trophy and two Honorable Mentions.  Oh yeah, did I mention that the Trophy was one that I WON.  I placed second place in the PC Troubleshooting contest.  I was pitted against 120 other teams, most of which were teams of two.  We went through the qualifying round, which was just a 100 question A+ certification test, and then yesterday 11 teams who scored the highest (I got a 76, which was slightly above the average for the qualifiers) competed by troubleshooting a computer that the judges had “broken” identically in 15 different ways.

The catch, and reason why I got 2nd place rather than 1st place, was that you had to document everything you did.  So they took the team(s) who found, fixed and documented the most problems wins, in case of a tie, then it was the team with the fastest time.  I finished shortly after the guys who got first, because I had to diagnose, fix, and write down everything on my own, while the two of them had a ringer (scored 86) and a seat filler (scored a 56).  Seat filler wrote all the documentation while the ringer fixed the problems
.  I’m not bitter at all though.  No seriously, I’m not.  It was a huge honor to get to go, and a blast.  I also am really glad that I placed so that the school can get some recognition, and the administrators don’t think it was a huge waste of money.

YAY I WON
