Zune

As some of you may know, I have a Zune. I got it for $70 last year. It’s a 30 gig mp3 player that I use about 5 gigs of. It’s great. Sure it’s annoying to have to use special software to put music on to the player, and that’s what kept me from getting an ipod all these years, and will continue to keep me from getting an ipod till the day I die.

I don’t really keep up with the news about Zunes, because I have no intention of buying a new one unless the current one dies (which it won’t for a very long time, since it doesn’t have the planned death that ipods have).

I just found this article that makes me appreciate the zune software a little more because again, for the second year in a row, I’ll be able to upgrade the software on my zune (not the software on my computer, but on the device itself) to the latest version that is running on the newest generation of the player. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me. If you don’t ask me, I still told you it’s amazing.

Microsoft also was working on an feature for the latest update called “Zune Recommendations” which will be a visual recommendation list based off of the user’s listening habits and other listeners with similar listening habits. Much like how Last.fm works

It almost makes me think that Apple found out Microsoft was doing this, so Apple quickly threw together a text based list that shows a recommendation list based off of purchasing habits (information they had readily available).

Check out this Wired Article about it

P.S. I forgot to mention, Zune Pass is a pretty cool concept. Basically an unlimited music download service that works off the netflix model of paying a monthly fee to listen to anything you want in the entire Zune store. When you stop paying, you can’t listen to the music anymore.

Don LaFontaine RIP

You don’t know his name, but surely you know the man’s work.

Don LaFontine – Voice actor

Sadly he passed away.

I wish I had known that he would respond to emails and record people personalized voicemail messages. For a voice actor to give away recordings of their voice to individual people is a pretty amazing thing.

Movie trailers just won’t be the same.

Recap

It’s been a while.

Here’s my last month and a half:

Went to Quakecon for work.  It was an interesting experience.  I worked nearly 80 hours that week.  I didn’t really get to participate in anything fun, it was all work and business.  If you count work as playing games in front of people a lot to get them interested in playing the games themselves.

The week after Quakecon I headed right back out to Dallas for ROGCon and did basically the same things I was doing at Quakecon, only much more scaled down.

The week after ROGCon I got to rest a day, then I headed out to San Francisco for some more work.  This time not game related.

In more important news, between ROGCon and San Francisco…  I bought a house!

When I returned from San Francisco, I rested for a day, then I started up with the work.  I’ve been over at the house every day for the last week and a half preparing it for habitation.  The walls were a blend of pink and purple.

Hideous!

It took me 4 days to tape up the house enough to paint it and so far has taken me 4 days to paint it.  I’m about 95% done painting.  I am trying to get the painting done before the new carpet I bought gets installed.

I guess you could say that life’s pretty busy.  I can’t wait to be moved, the house is awesome, as soon as I get a chance, I will take pictures of the completed (for the time being) project.  Yes I have before pictures of the pink beauty that was my house.
